   Hall of Famers Fred Couples and Nancy Lopez were honored at the 63rd National Awards   

   Dinner on Monday, June 23 at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown, New York.

 

   Other honorees included John Feinstein, the Blackwelder Family, the NJ PGA, Travelers

   and Knickerbocker Country Club.

   NANCY LOPEZ TO RECEIVE WINNIE PALMER AWARD

   Hall of Famer Nancy Lopez  will receive the Winnie Palmer Award from the Metropolitan

   Golf Writers Association at the 63rd National Awards Dinner on Monday, June 23 at the    

   Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown, New York.

 

   The Winnie Palmer Award acknowledges an individual who has consistently given their time,

   energy and enthusiasm to those less fortunate.  Named in honor of Winnie Palmer, who devoted

   much of her life to charity work for literacy programs and health care.

   Hall of Famer Fred Couples  will receive one of golf’s most prestigious honors – the Gold

   Tee Award – from the Metropolitan Golf Writers Association at the 63rd National Awards

   Dinner on Monday, June 23 at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown, New York.

 

   The Gold Tee is the MGWA’s highest honor – awarded to an individual whose career

   achievements exemplify the best spirit and traditions of the sport of golf.

   BRUCE BECK ELECTED PRESIDENT OF MGWA

   Bruce Beck, lead TV sports anchor of NBC 4 New York, was elected president of the

   Metropolitan Golf Writers Association at the MGWA Executive Committee’s September

   meeting, effective immediately.

 

   He succeeds Ralph Wimbish of the New York Post, who served 2012-13 as president and 

   remains on the Executive Committee.

 

   Sports broadcaster and author Ann Liguori of Ann Liguori Productions was newly elected as a

   vice president. Peter Morrice of Golf Digest was re-elected as vice preseident.

June 8, 2010 - Joe Louis Barrow, Jr., the chief executive officer of The First Tee, a youth development organization that fosters the growth of junior golf while teaching life skills and core values, was recognized for his outstanding leadership and achievements by the Metropolitan Golf Writers Association at their 59th National Awards Dinner on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown, New York.Barrow was given the Gold Tee Award, the MGWA’s highest honor.

Louise Suggs RECIEVES the 2009 GOLDTEE

June 18, 2009- Louise Suggs, the first female inductee into the World Golf Hall of Fame and one of the 13 founders of the LPGA in 1950, was recognized for her pioneering career achievements by the Metropolitan Golf Writers Association at their 58th National Awards Dinner on Tuesday, June 16, 2009at the Hyatt Regency Greenwich in Old Greenwich, Connecticut.  The Gold Tee Award is the MGWA’s highest honor.

Charlie Sifford Receives the 2008 GoldTeeAward

June 18, 2008 - Charlie Sifford, the first African-American to play the PGATOUR and the first black golfer to be enshrined at the World Golf Hall of Fame, was recognized for his pioneering career achievements by the Metropolitan Golf Writers Association at their 57th National Awards Dinner on Monday, June 23, 2008 at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown, New York.  Sifford received the Gold Tee Award, the MGWA’s highest honor.  Sifford was presented the award by Gary Player who received a Special Recognition Award for appearing in Fifty consecutive Masters Tournaments.
