MGWA Donates Over $60,000 to Local Charities

METROPOLITAN GOLF WRITERS ASSOCIATION DONATES

OVER $60,000 TO LOCAL CHARITIES

Elmsford, NY (December 4, 2023) --- The Metropolitan Golf Writers Association is pleased to announce that they have donated over $60,000 to several charitable organizations in the Metropolitan area.  These donations were made possible by the funds raised through the MGWA’s recent National Awards Dinner as well as from other MGWA activities. Caddie scholarships, internships, and various golf-related organizations were the beneficiaries of these donations.

“The MGWA is pleased and proud to support caddie scholarships and the great work of our fellow golf associations,” said MGWA President Brian Crowell.  He continued, “We’re grateful to our sponsors and to all who attend our Annual Awards Dinner. The Dinner is a chance to celebrate golf and our honorees, but the true winner is charity. The funds we raise are truly making a difference in the community.”

The MGWA’s largest annual fundraiser, its National Awards Dinner, was held on October 11th this year at Sleepy Hollow Country Club in Briarcliff Manor, NY.  This year’s honorees were World Golf Hall of Fame member Larry Nelson (Gold Tee Award), golf course architect Gil Hanse (Paul Dillon Distinguished Service Award), three-time LPGA major champion Jan Stephenson (Winnie Palmer Award),14-time Emmy Award winner Jimmy Roberts (Lincoln Werden Golf Journalism Award), Family of the Year winners the Youngs (David, Barbara and Cameron), Mary Bea Porter Award winner Julio Ugaz, Club of the Year winner GlenArbor Golf Club and Dave Anderson Spotlight Award winner Chuck Stogel.  Other MGWA events, along with individual contributions, also added to the funds available for distribution.  Due to the success of these programs, the MGWA was able to donate $14,000 each to the caddie scholarship programs of Long Island, New Jersey and Westchester/Connecticut.  The MGA Foundation, the Metropolitan Golf Association’s charitable arm which oversees Golfworks, various caddie academies, and other golf programs, also received $14,000.  Donations were also made to the charitable Foundations of the WMGA, Met PGA and the New Jersey PGA.

The MGWA has celebrated the game of golf and promoted golf journalism since its inception in 1952.  Each year, the sport’s champions and contributors are honored at its National Awards Dinner.  This highly anticipated event is supported by golf’s leading organizations and corporate supporters, Met Area clubs and club leaders, as well as local and national golf media. Through the Dinner and other events, millions of dollars have been raised over the years for the charities supported by the MGWA.
