Morgan Pressel to Receive Bing Crosby Tournament Sponsor Award

MORGAN PRESSEL TO RECEIVE

BING CROSBY TOURNAMENT SPONSOR AWARD

Elmsford, NY   (April 15, 2015) — LPGA standout Morgan Pressel will receive the Bing Crosby Tournament Sponsor Award from the Metropolitan Golf Writers Association at the 64th National Awards Dinner on Tuesday, June 9th at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown, New York.

Pressel established the Morgan Pressel Foundation in 2008, and it has raised more than $4 million through the Morgan & Friends Fight Cancer Golf Tournament held at St. Andrews Country Club in Boca Raton, FL. The eighth annual event, held this past January, was attended by LPGA stars Paula Creamer, Brittany Lincicome, Lexi Thompson, Cristie Kerr and World Golf Hall of Famer Annika Sorenstam, among others. Proceeds from the tournament support patient care and research at The Boca Raton Regional Hospital, the University of Miami Sylvester Cancer Center and the Morgan Pressel Center for Cancer Genetics.

The MGWA’s Bing Crosby Tournament Sponsor Award is presented to an individual or organization that promotes and supports the game of golf through commercial sponsorship of quality events. Past recipients include: LPGA State Farm Classic, Rolex Watch USA, Arnold Palmer, MetLife, Jack Nicklaus, Ken Venturi, and Bob Hope.

The Morgan Pressel Foundation was created to further the fight against cancer in honor of Morgan’s mother, Kathryn Krickstein Pressel, who passed away of breast cancer at an early age.  In addition to supporting patient care and research, the Foundation also funds the Kathy Krickstein Pressel MammoVan, a mobile state-of-the-art digital mammography system, which provides Palm Beach County-area residents with affordable and convenient access to mammography equipment, as well as clinical breast exams and breast health education.

"We are delighted to salute Morgan Pressel, whose Foundation fights cancer with the same ferocity she exhibits on the golf course," MGWA President Bruce Beck said.

Pressel was also recently honored for her charitable efforts by the Golf Writers Association of America with their Charlie Bartlett Award presented by Aberdeen Asset Management.  Other 2015 MGWA Award Winners Nick Price (Gold Tee Award), Gary Player (Winnie Palmer Award) and Ron Sirak (Werden Golf Journalism Award) will join Pressel on June 9th.

Since 1952, the MGWA has recognized the game’s greatest players, contributors, and organizations at its National Awards Dinner – the longest running and often the largest golf dinner in the U.S. each year.  A special video celebrates the six decades of the MGWA National Awards Dinner:   https://vimeo.com/63849701

MGWA member Jim Nantz says, “There is no dinner in America that celebrates golf like this one.”

Golf’s leading organizations – PGA of America, PGA TOUR, LPGA, USGA, MGA and top companies – MetLife, KPMG, and Rolex support the National Awards Dinner. The MGWA has raised more than 1.5 million dollars for Caddie Scholarship programs in the metropolitan New York area; the MGA Foundation; and the Dave Marr Journalism Scholarship at Columbia University.
