About the Club and Course:  Designed in 1966 by Frank Duane (a former associate of Robert Trent Jones Sr. and Arnold Palmer), the 18-hole course winds through rolling, tree-lined terrain, combining beauty with challenge. The driving areas are fairly wide. The premium is on approaches to well-protected greens, then negotiating the contours on the putting surface. The course has recently undergone a complete renovation by Rees Jones and staff, with Bryce Swanson serving as the lead renovations architect. RJI did an outstanding job blending classic design principles with modern strategy to enhance both challenge and playability.

There are five sets of tees, ranging from 5,374 to 6,811 yards. Par is 72 for men, 74 for women. Montammy has hosted various USGA, Met and New Jersey qualifiers, the New Jersey Senior Open, New Jersey Amateur and New Jersey Mid-Amateur.

In addition to the course upgrade, the expansive Montammy clubhouse has also undergone a large-scale modernization. Along with numerous meeting and dining areas, there is a very large outdoor patio overlooking the course. The club also boasts top-tier tennis and swimming facilities.

About the MGWA Golf:  As always, everyone attending is invited to play golf, whether in our tournaments or not.

About the Competition:  Our Quill & Tee Golf Club is offering a Member-Guest event, running concurrently with the 24th annual Red Hoffman Q&TGC Club Championship individual competition. All Q&TGC attendees will be entered in the Club Championship, which will be scored at scratch. Additionally, Q&TGC members may invite a non-MGWA guest to join them and compete in a two-person Member-Guest event, with handicaps (the Q&T Member-Guest is limited to the first 35 members to sign up, but will be increased if overall room allows. If needed, a waiting list will be started, and Q&T members will be notified of their status). All golfers in our competitions must maintain verifiable USGA-GHIN handicap indexes. The Club Championship will be contested in Flights to be determined.

Prizes will be awarded in both Member-Guest and Club Championship competitions, along with Nearest to the Pin contests for all attendees at Holes No. 5 and 13. (Please note, on the par-3 13th hole, all male golfers should play from the Gold tees at 155 yards).

As always, all MGWA members are encouraged to attend and play golf, but the Club Championship and Member-Guest are available only to our Quill & Tee members who pay a seasonal fee.

Caddies:  Forecaddies will accompany each group. Fee is $80 per person, which includes a tip.

Dress Code:  Our MGWA dress code for meetings/outings stipulates no denim or jeans; collared shirts tucked in; Bermuda shorts OK (no cargoes). No wearing hats/visors in clubhouse (except locker rooms & golf shop). Please don’t forget to tip the Locker Room attendant.

Cellphone Policy:  Cellphones must be set on vibrate mode at all times while on club grounds. Conversations on cell phones may only take place in locker rooms and on terraces (when meals are not being served), or outside the Clubhouse. If a telephone call must be made or responded to on the golf course, all reasonable efforts must be taken to ensure that such conversation is as brief and private as possible, and does not interfere with other players and guests.

Directions:  Montammy GC is close to Exit 2 of the Palisades Parkway, a few miles north of the George Washington Bridge. The Montammy Drive club entrance is located on the west side of US Route 9W. GPS devices all list the club for directions.

Entries:  MGWA entry is handled online via metgolfwriters.org. Fee for the day is $120 for MGWA members, $145 for Q&T guest. Forecaddie fee $80 per golfer. NOTE: Robin Sauerhaft, MGWA Client Administrator, will be out of the office the last two weeks in June and thus unavailable.

Tuesday, August 4th — Siwanoy Country Club, Eastchester/Bronxville, NY. Founded in 1901, Siwanoy in 2026 is celebrating its 125th year as a club. The current course, designed by Donald Ross and opened in 1913, succeeded two early nine-holers and sits within the Town of Eastchester and adjacent to the Village of Bronxville. Robert Trent Jones provided an upgrade to the course in 1952. Over the past few years, a renovation Master Plan has been ongoing by Mike DeVries, with further work slated for this fall. A 38,000 square-foot clubhouse upgrade took place in 2020. The par-71 course, with numerous elevated tees and compact greens guarded by severe bunkers, has five sets of tees ranging 4,742 to 6,736 yards. Guest speakers: Siwanoy club officials; architect Mike DeVries; author Dave Donelson; Golf Heritage Society: George Petro, President, and Bill Robertson, Executive Director. Tournament: Quill & Tee Better Ball Championship (with handicaps).

Thursday, August 27th — Preakness Hills Country Club, Wayne, NJ. Founded in 1926, Preakness Hills is proudly celebrating its Centennial this season. The original golf course was designed by Willie Tucker and opened in 1929. It has undergone several renovations over the years, including craftings by Brian Silva in the 1980s and Ron Forse in the early 2000s, and most recently a modernization by Nagle Design Works that produced new and expanded tee boxes, and tree removal. The terrain is moderately hilly, with mostly large greens and water in play on seven holes. There are six sets of tees with par varied at 70 or 72, and the course stretching 5,405 to 6,836 yards. Guest speakers: Club officials, Nagle Design architect (tentative). Tournament: MGWA Team Shootout (with handicaps).

Tuesday, October 6th — Mountain Ridge Country Club, West Caldwell, NJ. 73rd MGWA National Awards Dinner. Honorees include Judy Rankin, Gold Tee Award; Mike Whan, Paul Dillon Distinguished Service Award; Damon Hack, Lincoln Werden Golf Journalism Award; others to be announced.

Tuesday, October 13^th  — Bethpage State Park, Black Course, Farmingdale, NY. Golf holes will feature final day pin locations from Singles matches in the 2025 Ryder Cup.
