About Fresh Meadow: Honored this past June as the MGWA’s Club of the Year at our National Awards Dinner (a one-time designation). The club originally was located near Flushing, Queens, with a course designed by A.W. Tillinghast that debuted in 1923. The first Club Pro was Gene Sarazen. Fresh Meadow hosted the 1930 PGA Championship won by Tommy Armour and the 1932 U.S. Open, won by Sarazen, who had previously left as Club Pro. Fresh Meadow moved in 1946 when it purchased the nearby Lakeville Club, which had a parkland course designed by Charles Alison. The par-70 layout has multiple tee boxes ranging from 5,693 to 6,749 yards; slope from the back tee is 138.

Competition: The annual MGWA Team Shootout, a selected drive four-person event (two best balls, 50% handicap) will take place. For those planning teams in advance, select and verify your partners' attendance before mailing your entry. Players must have verifiable handicaps, or may play at scratch. We encourage everyone to form teams in advance. For company or organization entries (such as NY Post, NY Times, Golf Digest, NBC, ESPN, USGA, MGA), teams may include some employees or representatives of the organization who are not MGWA members, or MGWA members not necessarily from a designated company or organization (for the purpose of the Shootout competition). If you wish assistance in putting together a team, please contact Chuck Stogel (914-428-6111; chstogel@aol.com). Any questions, just ask.

Caddies:   Forecaddies will accompany each group. Fee is $50 per golfer, which includes the tip.

Dress code: Golf attire. No jeans or cargo shorts. Collared or mock-net shirts. Please remove hats in main clubhouse; they are OK in locker rooms.

Entries:   Enter either online via www.metgolfwriters.org or return the attached form with a check, payable to Metropolitan Golf Writers Association, for $85 per player to Robin Sauerhaft, MGWA Client Administrator, 49 Knollwood Rd, Elmsford, NY 10523, by 5:00 pm Thursday, Oct. 4. Because this is a four-person team event, non-team pairing preferences cannot be guaranteed.

Cancellation Policy:   Please read the “MGWA Meeting/Outing Cancellation Policy” found under “Meeting and Outing Announcements” on our website (www.metgolfwriters.org).
