About the Club & Course:  Pound Ridge is celebrating its 14th season of operation in 2021. Opened to much fanfare in 2008, PRGC has grown considerably in reputation and stature, and is considered one of the top public-access facilities anywhere. The property was developed by Ken Wang (brother of fashion designer Vera Wang), who spent nearly 10 years bringing the project to fruition.

Crafted by the one-and-only Pete Dye, along with his son, Perry Dye, and long-time Dye construction manager/lead shaper Michael Langkau, Pound Ridge GC is a unique and thoroughly modern design spanning 172 acres of magnificent cliffs, streams and wooded hills in Westchester County, NY (it also is “across the street” from Fairfield County, CT). Dramatic rock formations have been left on-site, creating one of the most visually stunning settings for golf in the U.S. with more than 14,000 linear-feet of rock wall, surrounding trees, wetlands and water hazards. Must-see-it-to-believe-it holes include: the par-5  13th, home to a giant boulder resting in the middle of the fairway, and the par-3  15th, dubbed “Headstone,” which features an elongated but narrow 9,000 square-foot green with a magnificent rock face serving as an unpredictable backboard for over-hit shots.

The Pound Ridge course features five sets of tees ranging from 5,151 to 7,165 yards, with par at 72 and the “way-back” championship slope rated at 150. Pound Ridge GC has stay-and-play arrangements with numerous premier lodging locations in New York City, Westchester and Fairfield. PRGC offers seasonal memberships along with daily green fees. Professional instruction is available.

Competition:  The Quill & Tee President’s Cup competition, a handicap event, will take place (Q&T membership and USGA handicap indexes required). Prize winners for the day include individual net leaders, plus nearest-to-the-pins. A general MGWA members net event also may be held.

Caddies: There are no forecaddies or caddies. Each cart is equipped with GPS yardage devices.

Dress Code: No denim or jeans. Collared shirts tucked in. Bermuda shorts OK (no cargoes).

Next up on the MGWA 2021 schedule:

Tuesday, June 8th  --- Pelham (NY) CC. The club recently completed a large-scale redesign and rerouting to its classic course under the supervision of architect Mike DeVries, whose other handiwork in the Met area includes Siwanoy, Sunningdale and Tamarack. Competition: Quill & Tee men’s and women’s qualifiers for the MGA Four Ball Championships, a two-person net Better Ball, aka the Met Net.

Thursday, July 8th --- The Summit Club at Armonk (NY). An exciting reopening with significant course and facilities changes is eagerly anticipated this spring for the club which has been closed the past few years and formerly went by the names of Brynnewood and, before that, the Canyon Club. Noted course architect Rees Jones has crafted numerous upgrades, course changes, and some entirely new holes. Presentation: Dr. Luther Rollins, founder, and Jesslyn Rollins, CEO, of Atlanta-based rehydration drink BIOLYTE. Competition: The highly popular MGWA Team Shootout.

Tuesday, August 31st --- North Jersey CC, Wayne, NJ. Our MGWA Club of the Year is a somewhat little-known gem designed by Walter Travis and is undergoing a strategic plan of upgrades and renovations being overseen by Brian Schneider and Renaissance Golf. A number of special guests and other activities are being planned to help celebrate NJCC’s designation as Club of the Year. Competition: Quill & Tee men’s and women’s Club Championships and the Q&TGC Member-Guest tournament, held concurrently.

Additionally, one or two get-togethers in the fall are still being planned and, tentatively, may include visits to a pair of Top 30 U.S. courses in the Met area. Stay tuned.
