FINAL REMINDER
Quill & Tee Signup Deadline: April 15th
April 13, 2021
To: All Met Golf Writers Association Members
From: Chuck Stogel, MGWA Activities Committee
This is a final reminder notice to renew or join the MGWA’s Quill & Tee Golf Club, a club without real estate offering numerous amenities including MGA/GHIN handicapping services, exclusive competition and prizes at Met Golf Writers meetings and outings, a subscription to The Met Golfer magazine and eligibility to enter various Met area tournaments.
The deadline to join Quill & Tee is this Thursday, April 15th. After this date, previous members will be dropped from the Q&TGC roster and only members for 2021 will be maintained.
At this point, joining our Quill & Tee group will have to be handled online via the MGWA website (www.metgolfwriters.org). Dues remain fixed at $55 per golfer for the season.
If you are a member of any land-based clubs, you can still join Q&T. Complete information about renewing or joining the Q&TGC is accessible at our website under the Meetings and Outings tab (www.metgolfwriters.org/Quill_and_Tee_home_page). You must be logged into our website in order to view this page.
The first four venues and dates for MGWA meetings and outings in 2021 have been confirmed, with the agenda and competitions being put in place as we resume get-together activities for this season following a pandemic hiatus in 2020.
The agendas for our meetings and outings are roughly similar. Our get-togethers comprise morning practice time with a possible clinic or equipment demo session; informative group meetings with presentations from club officials and special guest speakers, and a Q&A segment; buffet luncheon; afternoon shotgun golf, with various competitions; after-golf rendezvous with refreshments and prizes.
The venues and dates for our first four meetings and outings:
Tuesday, May 4th --- Pound Ridge (NY) GC. The only Pete Dye course design in New York State, assisted by son Perry Dye. A challenging layout with multiple tee box options traverses rolling terrain with woods and streams. Guest speakers: Darren Wang, ownership; Brad Worthington, Director of Golf; a Met Golf Association representative will preview the 73rd MGA Public Links Championship scheduled June 17th at Pound Ridge. Competition: Quill & Tee President’s Cup, a net event with handicaps.
Tuesday, June 8th --- Pelham (NY) CC. The club recently completed a large-scale redesign and rerouting to its classic course under the supervision of architect Mike DeVries, whose other handiwork in the Met area includes Siwanoy, Sunningdale and Tamarack. Competition: Quill & Tee men’s and women’s qualifiers for the MGA Four Ball Championships, a two-person net Better Ball, aka the Met Net.
Tuesday, July 20th --- North Jersey CC, Wayne, NJ. Our MGWA Club of the Year is a gem of a course designed by Walter Travis and is undergoing a strategic plan of upgrades and renovations being overseen by Brian Schneider and Renaissance Golf. A number of special guests and other activities are being planned to help celebrate NJCC’s designation as Club of the Year. Short Game Clinic conducted by Brian Mackie, golf pro (Don’t miss this. You all need it!). Competition: Quill & Tee men’s and women’s Club Championships and the Q&TGC member-guest tournament, held concurrently.
Tuesday, August 31st --- The Summit Club at Armonk (NY). An exciting reopening with significant course and facilities changes is eagerly anticipated this spring for the club which has been closed the past few years and formerly went by the names of Brynnewood and, before that, the Canyon Club. Noted course architect Rees Jones has crafted numerous upgrades, course changes, some entirely new holes. Presentations: Jeff Mendell, managing partner; Dr. Luther Rollins, founder, and Jesslyn Rollins, CEO, of Atlanta-based rehydration drink BIOLYTE. Competition: The highly popular MGWA Team Shootout.
Additionally, one or two get-togethers in the fall are still being planned. Stay tuned.
Notices to sign up for our seasonal gatherings typically are sent about a month prior to our scheduled meeting date, with a signup deadline set the week before so that clubs may make proper arrangements based on our number of attendees.
PLEASE NOTE: Our gatherings this season will follow CDC and New York State safety guidelines for group meetings. Appropriate measures may require wearing masks at times, physical distancing in certain situations and compliant meeting/dining areas.
