Deadline Nears to Sign Up for Pelham Outing
The deadline to register for our upcoming gathering at historic Pelham (NY) Country Club is next week, on Thursday, June 3rd. If you haven’t signed up already, please do so as soon as possible to assist with our planning.
A full day of interesting, informative and golfing activities is on tap at Pelham, which is scheduled for Tuesday, June 8th.
A classic course that hosted the epic 1923 PGA Championship match play duel in which local Westchester youth Gene Sarazen prevailed over the veteran Walter Hagen in 37 holes, Pelham recently underwent a significant renovation and partial re-routing under the supervision of course architect Mike DeVries. A well-respected renovation craftsman, DeVries will be joining the MGWA at Pelham and will speak to our group during our morning meeting.
Registration for Pelham is handled online via our website (metgolfwriters.org). In addition to our meeting and shotgun golf in the afternoon, there will be a buffet luncheon, plus after-golf refreshments and prizes.
The annual Quill & Tee two-person better ball tournament, along with an MGWA division (if there are enough entries), highlights the scheduled competition. However, members are certainly welcome to just play golf without the team competition. As always, we will have several nearest to the pin contests.
Those playing in the Quill & Tee GC segment of the better ball will have the option to also enroll in qualifying for the Met Golf Association Four Ball Championship. The top Q&T team enrolled will advance to an MGA sectional qualifying site of their choice. The championship finals for both men and women are scheduled in the autumn. There is a $20 per person fee assessed by the MGA for Q&T members to play in our qualifier, payable on-site to event coordinator Chuck Stogel prior to teeing off.
SPECIAL NOTE: For Quill & Tee teammates who intend to also enter qualifying for the MGA tournament, popularly called the Met Net, it would help planning if you would send an e-mail to me (chstogel@aol.com) in advance, indicating your intention to also vie for the MGA event. Payment will be handled on-site, either via cash or a check payable to the MGWA.
