About the Course:  North Jersey CC was founded in 1895 as the Paterson Golf Club and then, a year later, changed to its current name. The club’s first President, Garret Hobart, served as the 24th Vice President of the United States (1897-99) under President William McKinley and was the sixth U.S. Vice President to die in office. North Jersey CC moved to its present location when it purchased the 327-acre Greenbrook Farm in 1921, and its current course, designed by Walter Travis, opened in July 1923. (Travis: Philadelphia CC, Round Hill, Westchester CC, Yahnundasis, White Beeches, Spring Brook; many renovations including Garden City Golf, Sunningdale; 51 courses overall.) Architect Robert Trent Jones oversaw a remodeling in 1978 and Brian Silva supervised bunker renovations in 1994. More recently, Tom Fazio completed dramatic renovations at the par-3 13th hole and par-4 18th hole. Architect Brian Schneider of Renaissance Golf has presented the club with a further course master plan. North Jersey has five sets of tees ranging 5,491 to 6,642 yards, with men’s par at 71 and women’s par at 72.

Competition:  Back by popular acclaim, our Quill & Tee Golf Club is offering a Member-Guest event, running concurrently with the Q&TGC Club Championship individual competition. All Q&TGC attendees will be entered in the Club Championship, which will be scored at scratch. If entries warrant, the event will be conducted in flights. Additionally, Q&TGC members may invite a non-MGWA guest to join them and compete in a two-person Member-Guest event, with handicaps (the Q&T member-guest is limited to the first 18 members to sign up, but will be increased if overall room allows. If needed, a waiting list will be started, and Q&T members notified of their status). All golfers in our competitions must maintain verifiable USGA-GHIN handicap indexes. Men will compete from the White tees; Women from the Red. Men who are 70-and-over may move up one tee box, if they wish, and play from Gold tees. Prizes will be awarded in both Member-Guest and Club Championship competitions, along with Nearest to the Pin contests for all attendees. As always, of course, all MGWA members are encouraged to attend and play golf, but the Member-Guest is a perk for our club-without-real-estate Quill & Tee members only. If sufficient entries are received from non-Q&T members, there will be an MGWA competition at scratch.

Caddies:   Forecaddies will accompany each group. Fee is $40 per person, plus tip. (We want to be good guests and thus encourage paying $50 per golfer.)

Dress Code: No denim or jeans. Collared shirts tucked in. Bermuda shorts OK (no cargoes). No wearing hats/visors in clubhouse (except locker rooms). Golf shoes are not permitted in the Lobby, Ballroom, Fairway Lounge or Formal Dining Room. The changing of shoes and/or attire by anyone in the parking lot is prohibited. Please don’t forget to tip the Locker Room attendant.

Upcoming on MGWA schedule: Monday, August 30th --- Burning Tree CC, Greenwich, CT.  A classic course designed by Hal Purdy and a scenic club situated just east of the Merritt Parkway in leafy Greenwich, Burning Tree will be the site for the highly popular MGWA Team Shootout, conducted using a two best balls of foursome format. Tripp Davis, founder and principal of the architectural firm TDA --- who has overseen numerous renovation features at Burning Tree in recent years --- will be on hand and will speak to our group at the morning meeting. Also presenting: Dr. Luther Rollins, founder of Biolyte, “The IV in a Bottle.”
