Elmsford, NY (April 2, 2020) – In response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the MGWA has cancelled its National Awards Dinner which had been scheduled for June 22, 2020. The event was to have taken place at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown, NY. The Dinner will be rescheduled for a date to be determined, most likely in June 2021, again at the Westchester Marriott.
This year’s honorees will now be celebrated at the 2021 event. They include:
- Gold Tee Award winner – Butch Harmon
- Distinguished Service Award winner – Renee Powell
- Lincoln Werden Golf Journalism Award Winner – Johnny Miller
- Bing Crosby Tournament Sponsor Award Winner – Dick’s Sporting Goods
- Family of the Year – the Ballo Family
- Club of the Year – North Jersey Country Club
The MGWA has celebrated the game’s greatest players, contributors, and organizations at its National Awards Dinner – the longest-running and often the largest golf dinner in the U.S. each year – since 1952. This annual event is attended by nearly 600 guests, representing golf’s leading organizations, corporate supporters, Met Area Clubs and Club leaders, as well as local and national golf media.
The MGWA has raised well over two million dollars for Caddie Scholarship programs in the Metropolitan New York area, the MGA Foundation, and the Dave Marr Journalism Scholarship at Columbia University. MGWA contributions from the 2019 Dinner helped fund college scholarships for over 650 young men and women in the NY Metro area this academic year.
