MGWA Donates $75,000 to Charities
METROPOLITAN GOLF WRITERS ASSOCIATION DONATES
$75,000 TO CHARITIES
Elmsford, NY (October 15, 2019) --- The Metropolitan Golf Writers Association donated $75,000 to several Metropolitan-area charitable organizations in 2019. Causes supported included caddie scholarships, internships, and various golf-related organizations.
“We are pleased to support these important causes with their heavy emphasis on education and youth development,” said President Dave Donelson. “The MGWA recognizes their importance not just to the game of golf but to the quality of life in the metropolitan area.”
The MGWA’s annual National Awards Dinner, held in May of this year at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown, NY, is the MGWA’s major fund-raising activity. Other events and individual contributions also add to the funds available for distribution. As a result of the success of these programs, the MGWA was pleased to donate $15,000 each to the respective caddie scholarship programs of Long Island, New Jersey and Westchester/Connecticut. The MGA Foundation, the charitable arm of the Metropolitan Golf Association which oversees Golfworks, various caddie academies, and other golf programs, also received $15,000. Donations were also made to the WMGA and Met PGA Foundations and other organizations.
The MGWA, founded in 1952, promotes golf journalism, honors golf’s champions and contributors, and raises funds for Metropolitan-area caddie scholarship programs. The association also funds the Dave Marr Journalism Scholarship for a graduate student each year at Columbia University. Over the years, the MGWA has donated well over two million dollars to its beneficiaries.
