MGWA Re-Elects President, Executive Board

MGWA RE-ELECTS PRESIDENT, EXECUTIVE BOARD

 

 

Elmsford, NY (December 5, 2022) --- The Metropolitan Golf Writers Association Board of Directors has been re-elected in its entirety for 2023.

 

Noted broadcaster and PGA professional, Brian Crowell (pictured), will retain the title of President.  Joining him on the Executive Committee will be Vice Presidents Mark Cannizzaro of the New York PostHank Gola, veteran sportswriter formerly at the New York Daily News and Damon Hack of The Golf Channel.  Treasurer Dave Donelson of Westchester Magazine will also serve another term.

 

Current members of the MGWA Executive Committee will also be returning: Bruce Beck, WNBC-TV; Dan Berger, DMB Media Network; Lori Ann Cerullo, WMGA; Martin Davis, The American Golfer;  Patrick Donnelly, Sirius XM Holdings; Pete Kowalski, Kowalski Sports and PR; Ann Liguori, Ann Liguori Productions; Bill Meth, JB Sports Service; Peter MorriceGolf Digest; John Paul Newport, Freelance; Patricia Norton, On Course Strategies; Bill PenningtonFreelanceJimmy Roberts, NBC-TV Sports; and Chuck Stogel, Freelance.

 

Brian Crowell, both locally and nationally renowned in the golf industry, is the General Manager of Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point.  He has been a PGA of America golf instructor since 1991, was named the 2020 Met PGA Professional of the Year, and recently earned the title of PGA of America Master Professional, the highest educational designation a PGA professional can obtain.  He was President of the Metropolitan Section of the PGA and is a past winner of the PGA Professional Development Award (formerly known as the Horton Smith Award), which recognizes outstanding and continuing contributions to professional education. Crowell has covered numerous Masters and PGA Championships for CBS Sports, as well as both men’s and women’s U.S. Opens, the Ryder Cup, President’s Cup, and U.S. Amateur tournaments.  He hosted “Lesson Tee Live” on the Golf Channel, and “On-Course” on SiriusXM, and has authored several books: Slice-Free Golf, The Idiot’s Guide to Golf, and Visual Quick Tips: Golf. 

 

The MGWA has celebrated the game of golf and promoted golf journalism since its inception in 1952.  Each year, it honors the sport’s champions and contributors at its largest fundraiser, the National Awards Dinner.  This highly anticipated event is supported by golf’s leading organizations and corporate supporters, Met Area clubs and club leaders, as well as local and national golf media. Through the Dinner and other events, the MGWA has raised millions of dollars for Caddie Scholarship programs in the Metropolitan New York area, the MGA Foundation, and the Dave Marr Journalism Scholarship at Columbia University.
